Botulinum Toxin (Azzalure, Botox, Dysport) is used on the muscles of facial expression to soften lines and wrinkles in the upper face resulting in a more youthful appearance. This includes brow lift, frown lines (forehead) and crows’ feet (at the sides of the eyes). A fourth area becoming more commonly treated are the ‘bunny lines’ of the nose. Results take up to 14 days to complete and can last up to 3-4 months. The procedure to treat the whole 3 or 4 areas commonly treated takes no more than half an hour including completion of consent forms.
What Areas are Treated?
Commonly the glabellar or brow lines, the frontal muscles (forehead) and the muscles around the eyes. Many more people are now asking for treatment of their ‘bunny lines’ each side of the bridge of their nose.
How Does it Work?
It temporarily affects the messages sent to the muscles of facial expression, which make you frown, and raise your eyebrows in surprise. These are actions which we do hundreds of times each day quite involuntarily. This leaves wrinkles in our skin, and as we get older, the skin texture and tension changes allowing the creases to remain more permanently even when we are not frowning or making a face of some sort. Smile lines or crows’ feet develop in a similar way.
